Tree Planting

Trees tend to grow strangely on Erraid due to the strong, saline winds. They grow in a squat fashion, which are incredibly beautiful and somewhat resemble bonsi trees.

We wanted to plant more, to ensure the regeneration of the native woodland to encourage a healthy habitat for wildlife.

With our dear friend Peter staying with us over Christmas we got to work planting 50 elder, 60 birch, 70 ash, 70 oak and 70 hazel. Voles, deer and mice enjoy a good munch on the saplings, so we planted them with jackets to ward them off.

Trees send nutrients to other sick trees when they fall ill. Trees are rooted in community. We must learn from them.
