We had a chicken tragedy earlier this year when a mink got into our chicken coop and killed 12 of our feathered friends.

After a few months of very few eggs and mere flock of 8 chickens, we decided we needed to get some more.
Weirdly some local friends who were moving happened to have the exact same number that we lost – 11 chickens and 1 cockerel. We’d love to say we know what the breed is – some of them may be Shetland- but either way they are stunning. Combining them with our dwindling chooks certainly ruffled a few feathers and the new cockerel has been testing out his vocal abilities at all hours of the day. But now that spring is in action the eggs are coming and the chickens are a tight unit once more…
