Who are we?
We are a burgeoning community of 6 determined souls interwoven with visitors and volunteers, old friends and new.
We sow, grow, chop wood, make bread, herd sheep, fish, swim and live in rhythm with the seasons, the tides and the elements. We are a part of a wider constellation of islands and islanders where interconnection is essential to living sustainably and meaningfully. This island asks for presence, patience and participation, offering in return immense abundance and a profound sense of belonging.
We are grounded in this place, this network, this living island.
We want to express our gratitude for the decades of tending that Findhorn and its wider family members have given to this place. We are building from reverence and honouring these roots – continuing practices such as the ringing of the bell that gathers us, daily meditations and the drawing of guidance cards – and living together in the homes of past lighthouse keepers, committed to carrying their light forward.
As we tend to tradition, we are also stirring the pot of what is to come, working side by side with humility, courage and a playful regard for the imperfect and unexpected – new voices, fresh energy and the shared pulse of something vital and transformative.
We hope to inspire re-imagined perspectives on what it means to live and work intentionally and regeneratively, situated within the local ecology. We believe that the answers we seek often lie within, and encourage guests to unearth their authentic selves through the freedom this way of life offers.
As it has been before, we welcome guests into the rhythms of daily community life, from garden to kitchen to sanctuary, and throughout the year we mark the turning of the Celtic Wheel with seasonal celebration weeks that honour the Earth and her cycles. In time, we hope to offer themed weeks with programmes that align with this island, our wider community and our core principles. Skilled volunteers are always welcome here, too – the more hands the merrier! Our doors and our hearts are open to those who feel the call of this place.
We trust that visitors will experience the same sense of belonging that we feel living here on Erraid – to know it as home.
With firelit warmth from the Inner Hebrides,
The Lightkeepers
