Seaweed

We collect it from the beach, haul it into the trailer and then tractor it up to our gardens where it is laid on thick over the beds. It’s a natural mulch, slug deterant and has rich mineral and nutrient dense propeties which fertalise the soil and lock in moisture.

Nature often tells us to look around the surroundings for the answers to problems and this way of nourishing our gardens has been happening for centuries on the islands. It’s a priviledge to have the sea so close to our dwellings.

But it’s tough work! We move approximately around 30 tonnes a year. This year is no exception…
